Australian Senator Wants Police to Shut Down Online Gambling

Australian Senator Nick Xenophone has criticized Australian police for not doing much to stop online gambling. There is a law against online gambling in Australia, but people have been indulging in online gambling on sites like PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker. In spite of the law, the online gambling sites take about $1 billion a month from Australian players using Australian bank accounts.
A lawyer for online gambling industry, and previous President of Sports and Gaming Committee of International Bar, Jamie Nettleton, has attacked the stance held by Mr. Xenophone, and asked the Australian government to liberalize its laws on online gambling. Many suggest liberalizing laws to regulate online gambling better, but the anti-gambling lobby insists that legalized gambling will only exacerbate gambling addiction problems among the populace.
