Those who play roulette are still in the minority as far as American casino games are concerned. Roulette has one of the smallest followings, with nowhere near the popularity of slot machines, video poker, blackjack or craps. In Europe, on the other hand, roulette draws big crowds at Monte Carlo and other resorts.
The difference is the 00 featured on the American wheel, which is not placed on the French wheel used at European casinos. The bottom line is that American roulette players buck a house edge of 5.26% on all bets but one, which carries a 7.89% house edge, while European players face only a 2.7% edge, which is lowered to 1.4% on even-money bets by a rule called en prison. A few French wheels are used in the US, mostly in high-limit rooms.

How To Play Roulette

The game of Roulette originated in France, and the modern day layout we find in the casino dates back to 1842. You must purchase special roulette chips when you sit down to play roulette, and each player receives a different color chip. The chips are good for that table only and must be cashed in at the table when you are done playing. You cannot cash them in at the cage.
Each table has a minimum and maximum bet, and you cannot combine your inside and outside bets to meet the table minimum. There are several inside bets that you can make, including betting a number straight up or straddle the line between numbers to select a combination of numbers. The outside bets are made in the boxes surrounding the numbers. These bets can be red black odd and even which are all even money bets. You can also do a dozens bet which is made on 12 consecutive numbers, or column bets which are also 12 number bets.
